Senior Data Scientist at Sensyne Health

Dr. Basel Abu-Jamous

Basel Abu-Jamous is a senior data scientist with interests in developing and applying state-of-the-art data science and machine learning in healthcare and bioinformatics. Currently at Sensyne Health, an Oxford-based healthcare technology company, he contributes to analysis of anonymised patient data in collaboration with the UK NHS hospitals in order to accelerate drug discovery and improve patient care. He leads the area of genomic and multiomic data analysis, in which he has a particular interest. Dr Basel obtained a BSc in Computer Engineering from the University of Jordan in 2010, an MSc in Information and Intelligence Engineering from the University of Liverpool in 2011, and a PhD in Bioinformatics from Brunel University London in 2015. Over his PhD and early post-doctoral research, his research spanned the areas of yeast genetics, human erythropoiesis, breast cancer, and neuroscience. Before coming back to human health, he joined the Department of Plant Sciences at the University of Oxford from 2016 to 2019 as a bioinformatics researcher in the international C4 Rice project aiming at engineering a more efficient photosynthesis pathway in the rice crop. He co-authored a number of journal publications as well as a book titled “Integrative Cluster Analysis in Bioinformatics”. Moreover, he received prizes including the Sir Robin Saxby Prize from Liverpool University and the Dean’s Prize for Innovation and Impact in Doctoral Research from Brunel University.
Senior Expert of AI, Valeo

Dr. Hesham Eraqi

Hesham Eraqi is a Senior Expert/Director of AI and Chief AI Scientist at Valeo and an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Computer Science and Engineering department at the American University in Cairo. He received his BSc and MSc degrees in Electronics and Computer Engineering from Cairo University and his PhD in Computer Science and Engineering from the American University in Cairo with Highest Honors and highest GPA in class with an award-winning PhD thesis. With 10+ years of experience working in the automotive software industry besides academia, his experience mixes between the development of high tech awards-winning commercial products and conducting pure academic research. His projects list, filed patents, papers, and book chapters are mainly in the field of AI and Autonomous Driving and his applied research team at Valeo aims to enable new products in these areas.

Hesham has conducted hundreds of industrial training hours worldwide and delivered 50+ keynotes worldwide. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses at the top 4 universities in Egypt and taught with Udacity, besides, he advised 10+ MSc & PhD theses and graduation projects. He is the chairperson, advisory board, and program committee member in top international conferences in his area including NeurIPS and ECCV workshops and AV Silicon Valley, and he is an active reviewer at 20+ major journals and conferences. Hesham’s technical web articles are viewed hundreds of thousands of times and his open source contributions are downloaded tens of thousands of times.

Eng. Ayas Shaqour

Ayas Shaqour is an Electrical Engineer who graduated from the university of Jordan in 2016. He has worked as a VLSI design engineer for 4 months, working the layout design of nano circuits at Golden electronics. He then moved to work at the National Electric Power Company (NEPCO) in Jordan for 2 years and 7 months as an electrical power engineer in the Electric Training Center (ETC). He has given many courses in Power System Protection, Protection Relay Setting, circuit breaker fault selectivity, thermal imaging, and battery sizing for sub-stations. In 2019, he received the MEXT Scholarship to pursue his master’s degree in Energy and Environmental Engineering at Kyushu University, Japan. He is currently researching the application of Machine Learning and Deep Learning algorithms with focus on Demand Response systems in future Smart Power Grids. He also has more than 10 years in volunteering and is currently the communication secretory at the Kyushu University IGSES International Student Association: KIISA.

Dr. Amr Halawa

Amr Halawa is a Postdoctoral Researcher at Kyushu University, Japan. He got his PhD in Aerospace Engineering and Wind Engineering applications. He has vast experience in Fluid Mechanics, Aerodynamics, and Aeroelasticity. He worked on various engineering applications in the field of loads and performance analysis for aircrafts and wind turbines. Besides, he has a strong knowledge of programming languages and engineering software. He acquired great coordinating and planning abilities, as well as excellent communication and interaction skills thanks to his work in both academia and industry. In addition, he has more than 8 years of experience in the field of teaching and training.
Researcher at the Centre for Smart Modern Construction

Dr. Amer Hijazi

Amer Hijazi is a researcher at the Centre for Smart Modern Construction (c4SMC) at Western Sydney University (Australia). Amer has been funded by Western Sydney to pursue the first and most prestigious Blockchain Program in the world at Oxford University (the UK) and he aced all his modules with distinction. He was awarded a full scholarship from Western Sydney for his PhD with a value of around 0.25 million to work on developing a methodology for integrating Blockchain with Building Information Modelling for supply chains. Amer has participated in several international conferences in Sydney, Hong Kong and the MENA region and introduced Blockchain as a game-changer, on a path to disrupt many aspects of a business that deal with the coordination of information and trust. He has published several papers regarding Blockchain adoption in the construction supply chain and its potential applications for facilities management and how Blockchain could enable a single source of truth model.

Amer also holds a Master of Science degree from the University of the West of England, Bristol (the UK), in Building Information Modelling, Design Construction and Operation, and he was the only one to be awarded a full scholarship (UWE Bristol -Millennium Scholarship) in 2016 to pursue the same. In the UK, Amer has worked with the ‘’Vision Network’’ where he was awarded a grant from the Centre for Digital Built Britain based in the University of Cambridge to enable delivery and management of Digital Built Britain through asset, infrastructure, and service lifecycles. Amer was nominated by Transport for London to help them in Building Information Modelling implementation and he proposed a pathway focusing on current positioning and challenges for the future of London as a smart city. He was also nominated by the Digital Construction England Community to participate as speaker in the Peer to Peer BIM network where he talked about the integration of BIM and IoT to enable smart cities and enhance the level of digitalisation in the UK construction industry and also as a speaker for the UWE Bristol Conference in both 2017 and 2018.

Amer is also an entrepreneur as he has officially registered his company (A&H Group Ltd) with the UK Companies House (Company No.11182370) and worked as a BIM and Innovation consultant to several companies in England and the MENA region. In fact, Amer has worked in the AEC industry since 2009 in the UK and MENA region as a BIM consultant / Civil Engineer for making the BIM business case and establishing the BIM road map and planning BIM implementation. With more than a decade in the industry, he is a geek, he is energetic, positive and smart – and he is still only 32 years old.

Dr. Ibtihel Ben Ltaifa

Ibtihel Ben Ltaifa is a P.h.D. in computer science. Her area of research interest is centered around social information retrieval, influence spread, and social data analysis. She has rich analytics skills with a Big Data processing background (NLP) and she has expertise in various programming languages for data analytics, such as Python. Currently, De. Ibtihal is working as a teaching assistant at EPI Polytechnique of Sousse, Tunisia. She has rich experience in teaching computer science courses such as Advanced Database, Java programming and IT Security.

Eng. Ayham Alharbat

Ayham is currently conducting his master thesis research at the Robotics and Mechatronics Lab at the University of Twente, his research is focused on aerial physical interaction control of aerial robotics using Non-linear Model Predictive Control approaches, his research is part of the European H2020 Project, AERIAL-CORE. Ayham is also a Research Assistant at the Mechatronics Research Group at Saxion University of Applied Sciences, working on the design and implementation of interaction controllers for interactive aerial robots as part of MARS4EARTH project. His areas of expertise are: Dynamic Systems Modelling and Simulation, Interaction Control, Aerial Robotics, Embedded Control Systems, ROS, and PX4.

Dr. Adel Bibi

Adel Bibi received his BSc degree in electrical engineering with class honors from Kuwait university in 2014. He later obtained his MSc and PhD degrees in electrical engineering with a focus on the intersection between computer vision and machine learning from King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in 2016 and 2020, respectively. He is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Oxford. Adel has been recognized as an outstanding reviewer for CVPR18, CVPR19 and ICCV19 and won the best paper award at the optimization and big data conference in KAUST. He has published more than 13 papers in CVPRs, ECCVs, ICCVs and ICLRs some which were selected for oral and spotlight presentations.
AI Research Engineer - SMAGroup-Japan

Eng. Hussam Kanaan

Hussam Kanaan holds a Master of Science degree in telecommunication engineering from Anadolu University Turkey. Currently, he is working as an AI research engineer at SMAGroup (Japan).

His key interest areas are NLP, Deep Learning, Statistical Signal Processing, Data Science, and Big Data.

He has done several projects in this field like Drones Acoustic Signature Detection Using Deep Learning Algorithms, A Document Embedding Based Recommender System for Retrieving Contextual Similar Articles, and a lot more to be done.

He joined the Phi Science team in October 2020, we worked together on two tracks for NLP.
